Dan Losquadro Wins Second Term for State Assembly

The incumbent Republican Assemblyman defeats Democratic challenger Nick Deegan.

Two years after Dan Losquadro secured a seat in the New York State Assembly, defeating Democratic challenger Nick Deegan 31,673 to 16,433 Tuesday night with 89 districts reported.

Losquadro, a Shoreham resident, serves on the Higher Education, Insurance, Social Services, Transportation and the Children and Families Committees in the Assembly and served before that as the Suffolk County Legislator for the 6th Legislative District from 2003 to 2010. He has helped pass the 2 percent property tax cap, the repeal of the MTA Payroll Tax and Pension Reform. Losquadro was instrumental in repealing the state’s saltwater-fishing fee that severely impacted the region’s multi-billion-dollar-a-year tourism industry, and helped pass an on time state budget — New York’s first in five years.

"I'm obviously extremely pleased with the election," Losquadro said. "People have shown their faith in me on the state level, and I'm grateful to all my constituants for all their support."

Deegan, a Mattituck resident and commissioner on the Mattituck Park District, ran on the platform of being someone who can address issues such as raising minimum wage and improving transportation on the North Fork with efficiency and without raising taxes.
