The Long Island products are just of few aspects of local agriculture to represent New York during the event, which is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Russell Senate Office Building’s Kennedy Caucus Room. Gillibrand is the first New York Senator in nearly 40 years to serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Chef Tom Schaudel of restaurant in Mattituck, Steve Bate and other local food and wine experts will go to the Capitol to help promote New York agriculture.

Long Island Farm Bureau President Joe Gergela said that the event is also a good reminder of the vastness and variety of the state’s agriculture for Long Islanders.

“There will be cheese, maple syrup, produce as well as wine and oysters,” he said.

Gergela said Gillibrand is continuing New York Farm Day from the days of former Senators Hillary Clinton and Alfonse D'Amato.
