Incumbents Keep Seats In Shelter Island Race

The current slate of council members ran largely unopposed on Shelter Island.

With only one challenger looking to upset the incumbent GOP slate on Shelter Island, when the dust settled, it was business as usual, with the familiar faces keeping their seats.

Democratic challenger Robert Reylek, who looked to unseat GOP incumbents Edward Brown and Christine Lewis in a three-way race for two seats, lost the race. Reylek received 385 votes, while Brown garnered 544 and Lewis, 611.

Shelter Island Town Supervisor James Dougherty, who ran unopposed, received 586 votes, with 23 write ins.

Town Clerk Dorothy Ogar, who also ran unchallenged, received 649 votes, with four write ins.

Incumbent Superintendent of Highways Jay Card, also running alone for his seat, received 660 votes, with two write ins.

And Town Assessor Patricia Castoldi, also running unopposed, received 560 votes, with one write-in.
