Greenport Mayor: Pay Your Parking Tickets or Pay More

Village board considers surcharge on unpaid tickets, Newsday reports.

Greenport Village board members have considered taking action to get people to pay their parking tickets, according to a report from Newsday this week.

Mayor David Nyce and the board have proposed implanting a surcharge on unpaid tickets. Those who ignore tickets are looking at another $100 after 30 days, $200 after 60 days and $300 after 90 days or more. A public hearing was held this week and the law could pass next month.

A proposal to install parking meters in the village was voted down in March of 2012.
