GOP Sweeps Southold Town Election; Dinizio, Ghosio Take Town Board Seats

The GOP took the lead in the Southold Town elections Tuesday night.

The votes have been tallied and the Southold Town Republicans came out far ahead in the race.

Top vote getter in the bid for two town council seats was incumbent Jim Dinizio, who, at the unofficial tally, garnered 32 percent of the vote, with 4116 ballots cast in his favor.

Dinizio was also endorsed by the Conservative and Independence parties.

Next up was former town trustee Bob Ghosio, who received 27 percent, or 3552 votes; he was also endorsed by the Conservative and Independence parties

Democratic challenger Ron Rothman received 2453 votes; also on the Dem ticket was Mary Einstein, who garnered 2926 votes. Both were also endorsed by the Working Families Party.

Also in Southold, former town councilman Republican Vincent Orlando bested Democrat Eugene Wesnofske for the position of Superintendent of Highways, with an unofficial final vote of 3656 to 2885.

Democrat William Price won his bid for town justice against GOP challenger William Goggins; the final tally was 4066 to 2809.

Republican assessor candidates also took the lead, with Robert Scott receiving 4688 votes and Kevin Webster, 4236. Democratic challenger Marie Domenici received 2802 and Terry Hofer, 1971.

GOPS also swept the trustee race: John Bredemeyer was top vote getter with 4211, followed by Mike Domino with 4210, and Charles Sanders, with 3371.

Democrat Geoffrey Wells received 2787 votes; Joseph Finora Jr. received 2284, and William Funke, 2009.
