Discovery Channel to Air Plum Island Segment on Sunday

North Fork Patch Editor and other locals are interviewed for new look at the mysteries of Plum Island.

Nearly seven months after a three-day shoot across several East End locations, including , and the tip of Orient Point, a new segment about the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center will air on the Discovery Channel as part of a new series called “America’s Most Secret: Structures,” Sunday at 9 p.m. and again at 11 p.m.

was interviewed for the segment with Virginia-based author and military expert John Gresham. Other on-camera experts include local journalists Gwen Groocock and Karl Grossman. Patch contributor Sandy Martocchia also helped with the

, the segment examines how tight security is on the island, the facility’s history and connections to Nazi scientists and previous experiments with diseased ticks, theories of the island’s connection to the outbreak of Lyme disease in the mid-1970s, foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks, and the possibilities of bio containment breaches.
