Democratic Chairman Thanks Candidates For Enthusiastic Run

Art Tillman congratulates Democratic candidates for a good effort after Republicans sweep the general election on Tuesday.

After the votes were tallied, the unofficial numbers trickled in and it was clear that, Southold Democratic Committee Chairman gathered his troops and thanked them for a good run.

"The question is — how do you make a fine silk purse out of a sow's ear?" he said. "We've come a long way in the past four or five years, and we need to stick to our Democratic principles."

Tillman said that it hurt to witness a defeat like Tuesday's with all of the qualified, enthusiastic this year, but it wasn't enough on the North Fork.

"This isn't the stuff that wins elections here — yet," he said. "We're not going to be Republicans. We are going to be a fun, loyal opposition — that scares them."

Tillman said that he will work to continue to bring in new people to the growing group of Democrats in Southold.
