Channel 22 Continues to Air Village Meetings

Despite comments on a blog critical of Greenport village governance that says otherwise, the public access channel continues to broadcast Greenport village board meetings

Greenport village officials say a popular blogย written by a critic of the Greenport Village Board claiming village officials asked public access Channel 22 not to broadcast Village Board meeings is untrue.

Village Clerk Sylvia Pirillo said she confirmed with Southold Town that Village Board meetings would continue to be broadcast on the channel. She said the Village Board meeing, which took place Monday, Oct. 24 was available for viewing on Nov. 1.

"Generally, each taped village meeting is shown for at least one week and is broadcast three times per day, for example at 9 a.m., 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.ย I hope this helps to dispel any confusion," Pirillo said.

The blogger maintains the village has a policy of conducting business in "secret," restricting public comment by not allowing public commentary during village work sessions, and not responding to certain people during public commentary at the regular board meetings.

Greenport Mayor David Nyce said the village has no control over what gets broadcast and when it goes on the air on the town's public access channel. He said Southold Town controls Channel 22 and recently there were some technical difficulties that kept some broadcasts off the air. The mayor said he did not ask the town to stop broadcasting the meetings.
