New York State Assembly Candidate Nicholas Deegan

Mattituck resident takes first stab at state assembly seat, opposing incumbent Dan Losquadro.

Name: Nicholas Deegan

Hometown: Mattituck

Party: Democrat

Bio: Deegan says he’s had an interest in community involvement since he was a teenager growing up on a farm in County Wicklow, Ireland. His father, Denis, was always a strong voice in local government, and Nick followed in his footsteps. Deegan, 62, ran and lost in 2011 on the Democratic ticket for Southold Town Councilman. He has served the North Fork community as a coach, crew member of the Mattituck Soccer Club and as a commissioner of the Mattituck Park District since 2007. A professional carpenter, Deegan said he became interested in running for park district commissioner when he witnessed the building of a storage facility on beachside land at Veterans Memorial Park in Mattituck in 2006.

Opponent: Incumbent Assemblyman Dan Losquadro

District: 1st Assembly District

Candidate Statement: As park district commissioner, Deegan said reduced taxes by 16 percent without cutting services to the park district. He said he believes he has proved himself to the community as someone who can get stuff done with efficiency. “I believe I have the leadership skills to bring us where we need to be,” he told Patch in 2011.

Polls are open Nov. 6 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

even worse?...When I had the publisher of North Fork Magazine contact me regarding the blatantRead More violation, what were his comments?? To add further insult to injury, he said & I quote: "I thought I was doing Greenport a favor...all of the businesses there are suffering...this paper doesn't make any money...sure I have advertisers but they don't pay their invoices...maybe if the cover of the magazine brings business to Greenport, maybe those merchants will pay their bill.."

Better yet, rather than pay mag's invoice. send $$$ to Artist.

And he really still doesn't see that he's stealing from the artist to 'bring business to Greenport'?Read More The effrontery of his comment leaves me aghast. Of ALL people who should grasp the concept of plagiarism and copyright laws, it should be a newspaper editor/publisher! Cropping out her signature proves they knew full well that they were stealing her work. I'd suggest the artist contact a copyright attorney pronto. I'm always astonished when something like this occurs when a simple phone call to the artist might have been successful in allowing him to use her work WITH her signature intact instead of doing something so underhanded.
