Bellone to Announce County Exec Candidacy at End of Month

Babylon Supervisor first Democrat to step forward.

After conducting a listening tour across Suffolk County over the past month, Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone will be announcing his candidacy for county executive later this month.

Bellone's spokesman said that this past weekend, invitations to the announcement were mailed out, and Monday evening invite recipients also received automated recordings from Suffolk County Democratic Chair Richard Schaffer.

The announcement will take place on Wednesday, April 27.

"He's been hearing out concerns throughout the county on the listening tour," said Rick Fromberg, Bellone's spokesman. "He's received a great response. And he's going to continue to pursue that, meeting with leaders and residents up until April 27."

Bellone so far has been the only Democrat to step forward to attempt to earn the county executive nomination.

The  - nearly a half dozen candidates have expressed interest - following the announcement by incumbent County Executive Steve Levy .

Being a resident of Islip Township, I am not familar with Mr. Ballone, except what I read in the newspapers. But in respsone to Ms. D'Ambroso comment, please enlighten me further, how a candidate, could claim, the reason he didn't get elected was because of web postings, i.e. twitter, facebook, etc. Actually, it is my understanding it was social media, that help the current president get his message out and get elected. President Obama, just recently used that media, to annouce his re-election bid.

Hi Kim - interesting article but I'm not sure if politicians are "applying" for a job or vying for one! Good luck to Mr. Bellone . . .

Thank you Ms. D' Ambrosio, for educating me about the "shield law". I feel people should be accountable for what they say about a public official or a private citzen. I am of the older generation, where if you had nothing nice to say , say nothing. Thank you again for your response.
