Alessi Concedes First Assembly District Race

Alessi says he will "focus on my young and growing family."

One day after the absentee and affidavit ballot count came to completion, incumbent Assemblyman Marc Alessi, D - Shoreham, conceded on Wednesday afternoon to Republican Assemblyman-elect Dan Losquadro, R - Shoreham.

"I want to thank everyone in the community who placed their faith in me and supported me as I worked to make a difference," Alessi said in a statement. "I wish Assemblyman-elect Dan Losquadro the best of luck as he represents the First Assembly District.

"I will use this opportunity to focus on my young and growing family. My wife Gretchen and I are thrilled to be expecting our third child in January."

There was no mention of whether or not Alessi would run for Losquadro's soon-to-be vacant Suffolk County Legislature seat. Losquadro is currently serving as the Minority Leader in the Legislature, representing the sixth district.

Losquadro had said , stating that his lead stood at 906 votes following Tuesday's completion of absentee and affidavit ballot counting. But Alessi had said in a statement on Monday that he would wait until an official count from the Board of Elections to determine what his next move would be - presumably concede, or call for a hand recount.

Now with Alessi's concession official, Losquadro looks forward to serving Suffolk County in a different role.

"I have a great deal of experience with budgetary matters, being the minority leader and on the Budget and Finance Committee for many years, so I'd like to get into the Ways and Means Committee" Losquadro said. "One of the things people forget is that Suffolk County has a tax cap, and that's one of the things I've been saying to the leadership up in Albany. I want to see a tax cap combined with a spending cap."
