Update: Bohemia Couple Injured in Deer Accident Identified

Husband and wife remained hospitalized on Monday, officials said.

Police have released the names of the couple who were injured Sunday after an accident involving a deer on County Road 48 in Peconic.

According to Southold Town police, Bohemia residents John Simicich III, 49, and his wife Noreen Simicich, 50, were traveling west on County Road 48 at 4:30 p.m. in Peconic when a deer came into the roadway and struck their motorcycle.

Southold Fire Department rescue treated the injured couple until they were airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital, police said.

On Monday morning, officials at Stony Brook Hospital confirmed that both patients were still hospitalized but could not comment on the details of their conditions.

The accident sparked traffic snarls, with many cars being re-routed to Route 25, where cars were backed up for some time, according to witnesses.

The accident was the second serious incident on Route 48 in 24 hours: On Saturday night, an elderly man died after a two-car crash on Route 48 in Southold.
