Two Teens Injured in Orient ATV Accident

Neither teen was wearing a helmet, police said.

Two local teens were seriously injured in an early morning ATV accident in Orient, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the accident took place on Wednesday at 3:14 a.m. on Village Lane.

Responding to the call, police found an 15-year-old East Marion boy lying in the roadway and a Greenport girl, 18, pinned on a Yamaha ATV that had crashed into the back of a legally parked car. 

Neither teen was wearing a helmet, police said, and both suffered severe injuries.

The victims were transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital by Orient and East Marion rescue squads. The young woman was later transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via helicopter for treatment of her injuries.

An investigation is ongoing by the Southold Police Detective Division. The quad was impounded.
