Toddler Who Fell Out Of Mattituck Window 'Miraculously' Fine, Homeowner Said

The child is believed to have only scratches and will be released from the hospital Wednesday.

A two-year-old boy who fell out of a Mattituck window Tuesday and into the basement of the building is doing fine, according to the owner of the home.

Matt Daly, who owns the house on Route 25 where the child, Javier, was being watched by his babysitter, said Tuesday night that another tenant, Brian Perez, had spoken with the child's family, who were at his bedside at Stony Brook University Hospital.

"Miraculously, they don't think there's anything wrong with him. Maybe a couple of scratches," Daly said.

He added that the little boy was being kept in the hospital overnight for observation and was slated for discharge on Wednesday.

"As far as we know, he didn't break any bones," Daly said.

According to Southold Town Police Captain Frank Kruszeski, police and the Mattituck Fire Department responded to a call just after noon on Route 25 in Mattituck, near the Hess station, where there was a report of a two-year-old boy who had fallen from a second story window.

A plumbing crew who had been performing work at the residence found the child, Javier, who had fallen through open Bilco doors and into the basement below; a member of the crew dialed 911, police said.

The child was flown to Stony Brook University Medical Center by Suffolk County Police helicopter, Kruszeski said; his condition was not immediately known.

A resident of the home where the incident occurred, Perez, said the child was being watched by a baby-sitter while his mother was at work, and that the toddler was jumping and fell out of the window by accident.

Police confirmed the information and said there was a baby-sitter in charge at the time and it "appears it was an accident."
