Southold Man Hospitalized After Accident

Police said victim lost consciousness at the wheel

A Southold man was hospitalized Sunday after a Laurel accident during where he lost consciousness, drove off the road, and hit a rock wall and bush, police said.

According to Southold Town police, Brendan Bishop, 33, was operating his 2006 Dodge pickup westbound on Peconic Bay Blvd in Laurel on Sunday at 8:42 p.m. when, he stated, he lost consciousness at the wheel and ran off the roadway, striking a rock wall and a bush.

Mattituck Fire Department responded; Bishop transported Bishop to Eastern Long Island Hospital for unknown inuries, police said.

No further information was immediately available on why Bishop lost consciousness, police said. No charges were filed.
