Police: Three Men Charged With DWI Over the Weekend

Southold Town Police charge a Massachusetts man, a Peconic man and a Shelter Island man with driving while intoxicated and various other offenses over the weekend.

The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

• William Caldwell, 50, of Westford, Mass., was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, speeding, open container of an alcoholic beverage, and refusing to take a roadside breath test on March 3 at 11:25 a.m., after police stopped him for a traffic violation at the intersection of Route 48 and Cox Neck Road in Mattituck, police said. Caldwell was found to be intoxicated, arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic where he was held overnight pending arraignment.

• Rudy Javier, 21, of Peconic, was charged with DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle on March 4 at 6:57 a.m., after police stopped him for a traffic violation while he drove a 1998 Ford Mustang on the corner of Route 48 and Depot Lane in Cutchogue, police said. Javier was found to be intoxicated and was also found to be operating the vehicle with revoked driving privileges for a previous conviction of driving while ability impaired by alcohol, police said. He was arrested, transported to police headquarters in Peconic and held for arraignment.

• Thomas Verity, 45, of Shelter Island, was charged with DWI and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle on March 4 at 9:25 p.m., after police stopped him for failing to signal on Third Street in Greenport, police said.  A further investigation found him to be intoxicated, police said. He was arrested, transported to police headquarters in Peconic where he was processed and lodged until his arraignment in the morning.
