Police: Swimmers Saved After Sailboat Capsizes

Southold Town Bay Constables help swimmers ashore on Sunday.

Three Southold residents got help getting home from bay constables after their sailboat capsized in Hogs Neck Bay and they tried to swim back to shore.

Police responded on Sunday at 3:52 p.m. to a call from a 53-year-old Southold resident who said that her children were overdue from a sailing trip. Constables at the scene said they spotted Rebekah Desimone, 20, of Southold and Tim Desimone, 24, of Southold floating and waving their arms about one and a half miles from shore in Hogs Neck Bay. Their boat had taken on water and had capsized, and they told police that they had decided to swim to shore. Both refused medical attention, police said.
