Police: Southold Man Hospitalized After Cutchogue Car Crash

Southold Town Police report injuries resulting from a single-car accident on Route 48.

Kyle VanDuzer, 27, of Southold, was hospitalized during the early morning hours of Oct. 12 after suffering injuries from a car crash at about 1:25 a.m. on Route 48 near Bridge Lane in Cutchogue, Southold Town Police said. VanDuzer was the only occupant of the vehicle and was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. VanDuzer's vehicle was eastbound on Route 48 when it veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole on the south side of the highway. Prior to this incident, it appears that VanDuzer's vehicle left the roadway in the area of Depot Lane and brushed a guardrail. As a result of the accident, power was out in the area for several hours.

did you all know that the speed racers on peconic bay raceway blvd claimed another victim yesterday. if the speed limit is 30 then how was a deer hit in front of my home and mangled...we cant get out of the driveway safely most days....when a human gets wacked maybe somebody will listen......

How sad is it--or maybe how telling--that today everyone is slowing down to see the remains of the deer. We need a way to enforce the 30 mph speed limit on PBB.

Perhaps you might want to attend the next town board meeting to make the suggestion that "speed humps" be placed along Peconic Bay Boulevard. You can do your homework using this site: http://trafficlogix.com/en/productsservices/overview I believe that speed humps can be installed to allow fire trucks and emergency vehicles with wide tire tracking to bypass the speed humps while not allowing cars to do so. This feature allows emergency vehicles to speed while slowing normal vehicular traffic. There may be the possibility of grants, etc., to ameliorate the cost to the town. Good luck.
