Police: Southold Man Crossing Street Hit By Car, Airlifted to Hospital

A 72-year-old Southold man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car at Southold intersection Tuesday morning.

George Hoffner, 72, of Southold, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment to what Southold Town Police reported as non-life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a car while attempting to cross Route 25 at the intersection of Youngs Avenue and Route 25 in Southold, police said.

Hoffner was crossing the street while 74-year-old Cutchogue resident Henry Oman was making a left-hand turn on to Route 25 from Youngs Avenue. Oman did not see Hoffner in the crosswalk due to sun glare and struck him, police said. Suffolk County aviation transported Hoffner to the hospital.
