Police: Riverhead Man Flees Accident Scene, Charged With DWI

Southold Town Police track down man who left the scene of an accident on Sound Avenue in Mattituck Sunday night.

The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Noel Castaneda, 26, of Riverhead, was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of an accident on Oct. 7 at 7:58 p.m., after Castaneda was involved in a car accident on Sound Avenue in Mattituck, police said. After the crash, Castaneda fled eastbound on foot and was found a short time later by the Southold Town Police K-9 unit. Castaneda was found to be intoxicated, arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic for processing.
