Police Report: Petit Larceny, Unlicensed Operation, Criminal Mischief

Southold Town Police report one incident of larceny, one of aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and another of criminal mischief this week.

Joy D. Kauffman, 47, of Hampton Bays was charged with petit larceny on Tuesday at 8:44 p.m., after an investigation by revealed that she issued a check at a Southold store knowing that she had insufficient funds in the account, police said. Kauffman then allegedly traded the merchandise for crack cocaine, police said.

Robert W. Juarez, 23, of Laurel was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation on Tuesday at 6:50 p.m. after he was stopped for a traffic violation as he drove on Route 25 in Mattituck and a computer check revealed that his driver's license was suspended and that the registration on his vehicle was revoked. Police said that Juarez also had an active warrant from the Quogue Village Police Department for driving while intoxicated.

Gilberto Jimenez, 40, of Cutchogue was charged with criminal mischief on Feb. 25 at 2:39 p.m., after police responded to a complaint from a 34-year-old Cutchogue man who rents an apartment from Jimenez that Jimenez cut a telephone wire to the man's apartment with a knife, police said. Police reported that the incident occurred after an argument between Jimenez and the man.

None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime, but were charged with the above offenses. They are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
