Police Report: Left-Hand Turn Causes MVA, Tools Gone Missing

Southold Town Police report one motor vehicle accident caused by a left-hand turn and a report of larceny this week.

A 27-year-old Riverhead woman was taken to the hospital this past Thursday after being involved in a motor vehicle accident caused by a left-hand turn in Mattituck, reported.

Shannon Reitz, 27, of Mattituck was driving a 2001 Jeep Suburban east on Old Sound Avenue in Mattituck at 9:15 a.m. with a 6-year-old passenger when her vehicle was struck by a 1999 Nissan van driven by Marybeth Bilunas, 59, of Riverhead, police said. Bilunas was attempting a left-hand turn from Factory Avenue onto Old Sound and failed to yield the right of way to Reitz, police said. Reitz was transported to for treatment.

A 56-year-old Laurel man reported to police this past Friday that someone stole $1,500 worth of tools from his truck sometime between July 11 at 9 a.m. and July 14 at 10 a.m., police said. The man said that the truck was parked at his Aldrich Lane residence and that two tool boxes containing items such as pull saws, hammers, clamps, plumbing squares and pipe wrenches had gone missing, police said.
