Police: Missing 8-Year-Old Found After Beach Search

An 8-year-old Oceanside girl was found at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday after her mother reported to that the girl had gone missing earlier that evening from a Cutchogue beach location on Long Island Sound, police said.

Aspasia Pappas, 47, of Oceanside told police that her daughter had been on the beach with other family members and separated from them without their knowledge, police said. Southold Town Police officers searched the beach between Cutchogue and Mattituck, and Suffolk County Police officers searched via helicopter from the air. The girl was located and returned to her family about an hour and a half later, police said.
