Police: Mattituck Man Charged With DWI After Being Extracted From Car

Intoxicated man is flown to Stony Brook Medical Center, then arrested.

Ryan Connell, 20, of Mattituck was charged with driving while intoxicated after being involved in a motor vehicle accident on Monday at 6:35 a.m., when police had to extricate him from his car on Route 25 in Laurel, police said. Connell was trapped behind the steering wheel at the scene. After he was rescued, he was flown to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment to injuries. Investigation of the accident revealed that Connell had been intoxicated when he had hit a telephone pole heading east on Route 25, continued on and hit a guard rail, re-entered the roadway and crossed over to the westbound lane where he hit a tree, police said.
