Police: Mattituck Copper Robbers Caught; Greenport DWI Charge

Southold Town Police report one driving while intoxicated charge and grand larceny charges in connection with stolen copper this past summer.

The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

• Peter Kleckowski, 52, of Sound Beach, William P. Smith Jr., 32, of Rocky Point, and Jeremy Sunderland, 26, of Holbrook, were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny on Sept. 25 after an investigation revealed that Kleckowski, Smith and Sunderland stole more than 400 pounds of copper from a Mattituck business in mid-August of this year and then sold the copper to a recycling center, police said. The stolen copper was valued at approximately $2,200. Kleckowski was arrested and held for arraignment, and arrest warrants were requested for both Smith and Sunderland, police said.

• Donna L. Mellas, 52, of Greenport, was charged with driving while intoxicated on Sept. 21 at 11:45 a.m., after police stopped her for failing to stop at a stop sign at Sutton Place in Greenport and she was subsequently found to be in toxicated, police said. She was arrested, transported to police headquarters where she was processed and held until her arraignment in the morning.
