Police: Man Found Dead on Miller Place Beach

Man found Wednesday afternoon may have suffered a violent death, police say.

A man found dead on a Miller Place beach Wednesday afternoon appears to have been a "victim of violence," police said.

Sixth Precinct officers were called to the beach in front of the Miller Beach Surf Club, located at 23 Harbor Beach Road, after a man looking for driftwood discovered the body of a man lying on the sand shortly before 4:30 p.m.

A preliminary investigation by Physician Assistant from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office indicates that the man was a victim of violence, police said.

An autopsy will be performed on the man, who has not yet been identified, police said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.  All calls will be kept confidential.

Law enforcer has never denied gang activity on LI. Quite the opposite. YEARS ago we had a gang awareness professional development presentation at the western LI district I am employed by. The officers referenced Miller Place in one example that day it's time for the ( middle - upper middle class ) public to their heAds out of the proverbial sand with regard to unpleasant modern social issues including drug use amount our youth Gangs and drug use and sales are closely related people. We can not afford to say " not my kid" or " not in my backyard" Also this is not a PUBLIC beach with easy access. This 19 year old is someone's son. I'm sure this was not what they envisioned for their child..... Sad
