Police: Kings Park Woman Injured After Crashing Into Two Light Poles

Katherine Lobbe is hospitalized after falling asleep behind the wheel in Mattituck.

The driver of a livery van carrying a passenger crashed into two light poles at the intersection of Route 25 and New Suffolk Avenue in Mattituck, causing a brief power outage early Monday morning, Southold Town Police reported.

Katherine Lobbe, 53, of Kings Park was driving the livery van east on Route 25 at 5:09 a.m., when she fell asleep, left the roadway and struck two light poles, snapping the second pole in half, police said. Members of the Mattituck Fire Department treated Lobbe for minor injuries and transported her to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. Georgia Panagopoulas, 51, of East Marion, the passenger of the vehicle, was not injured, police said. The crash caused a brief power outage in the area, and Route 25 was closed while a Long Island Power Authority crew restored power.
