Police: Icy Road To Blame for 3-Car Accident in Southold

Two drivers hit utility poles, police said.

A slick, icy road was the cause of a three-car crash in Southold on Sunday, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the accident took place at 6:45 a.m. when a driver with two passengers was heading west on Route 48 and Old North Road when the vehicle lost control after hitting ice.

The car headed into the eastbound lane and hit a car driven by an elderly man, 75; trying to avoid a collision, the older man swerved and hit a utility pole. 

A third driver, who was heading eastbound behind the elderly man's car, swerved to avoid a crash and also hit a utility pole, police said.

None of those involved sustained injuries, police said.
