Police: Greenport Man Drove High Through School Parking Lot

Southold Town Police charge an 18-year-old man with driving while impaired by marijuana Tuesday night.

The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

William Lott, 18, of Greenport, was charged with driving while impaired by drugs and unlawful possession of marijuana Tuesday at 11:06 p.m., after police observed a vehicle parked in a dark parking lot at Greenport School, suspiciously, among construction trailers, police said. Upon seeing the police patrol car, Lott headed southbound through the school parking lot and was stopped in order to ascertain his purpose there, police said.

The officer on the scene detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and Lott admitted to smoking marijuana earlier, police said. Lott was also found to be in possession of marijuana. Lott was arrested, transported to Southold Town Police headquarters for processing and held pending arraignment.
