Police: Greenport Man Buys Beer for Teen With Teen’s Money

Southold Town Police charge a 47-year-old Greenport man with unlawfully dealing with a child outside of Mr. Robert's convenience store on Saturday.

The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Howard Brooks, 47, of Greenport, was charged with unlawfully dealing with a child on March 3 at 9:50 p.m., after a Southold Town Police officer observed Brooks placing a bag on the sidewalk outside of convenience store in the village, then observed a 15-year-old juvenile pick up the bag, place it under his jacket and walk north on Third Street, police said.

The officer stopped the teen and found a 40 oz malt liquor bottle inside the bag, police said. Brooks admitted to taking money from the juvenile to purchase the beer and then leaving it for the juvenile to pick up, police said. Brooks was arrested, processed at police headquarters in Peconic and lodged to await arraignment.
