Police: Greenport Man Attacks Cafe Owner; Grabs Officer's Gun

A Greenport man is tased and charged with menacing and several other offenses after attacking the owner of D'Latte in Greenport on Thursday.

officers had to use a taser and pepper spray to subdue and arrest a Greenport man after he attacked the owner of D'Latte café Thursday afternoon.

Donald Beckley, 57, of Greenport was charged with menacing, harassment, attempted grand larceny, and resisting arrest on Thursday at 2:44 p.m. after police responded to a report of a disturbance at D'Latte café on Main Street in Greenport, police said.

Beckley had attacked the owner after he was asked to leave the café, grabbing the owner in a headlock, punching him and threatening to stab him with a pen, police said. Beckley violently resisted arrest and attempted to unsnap an officer's holster to grab his gun, police said.

Officers used a taser and pepper spray to subdue Beckley, whose eyes were washed out at before he was taken to police headquarters for processing.
