Michael Zervos, 46, of Holiday, Fla., was charged with driving while intoxicated on Dec. 22 on 5:17 p.m. after Zervos failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway while he drove a 2006 Toyota east on Route 25 in Greenport, police said. Zervoz left the roadway and struck a road sign and a utility pole, then continued eastbound for a short distance, crossed the roadway and stuck a guardrail. This impact turned the car back in an westbound direction where it eventually came to rest against the foundation of the Southold Fish Market, police said.
Zervos was arrested for DWI, transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital for medical evaluation and then taken to police headquarters in Peconic to be processed and held for arraignment. Route 25 was closed for several hours while LIPA repaied the broken utility pole, police said.
