Southold Town Police arrest Ralph Mims after he evades police in a car, then on foot.

The following information was supplied by the . A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Ralph Mims III, 34, of East Marion, was charged with driving with a suspended license, evading police and other offenses on Aug. 4 at 12:48 a.m., after police observed Mims speeding in a 2004 Nissan Maxima on Route 48 in Greenport, police said. A registration check on the license plate revealed that the vehicle was displaying plates that did not match the car. The vehicle in question turned off onto Ruch Lane in a manner that suggested that the operator was attempting to hide from the officer, police said.

The vehicle was later located headed eastbound on Route 48. The vehicle made a sudden left hand turn into a driveway off of Route 48, and the operator took off on foot, police said. The Southold Town Police K-9 unit was notified, responded, and successfully tracked Mims, who was located at a residence east of the residence. Mims told police he ran because his license was suspended, police said. He was arrested, transported to police headquarters in Peconic for processing, processed, released on cash bail, and ordered to appear before Southold Town Justice court at a later date.
