Crime Report: DWIs and Larceny on the North Fork

Southold Town Police report four incidents of driving while intoxicated and one of possible grand larceny this week.

Alberto Rivero, 40, of Riverhead was charged with driving while intoxicated on Tuesday at 12:40 a.m., after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Route 48 in Cutchogue. The officer on the scene smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Rivero's breath during the accident investigation, police said.

Thomas Sadowski, 50, of Southold was charged with DWI on Friday at 11:24 a.m. after police stopped him for several traffic violations as he drove on Sound Avenue in Southold, police said.

Jose Gregorio, 29, of Southold was charged with DWI and aggressive unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle on Friday at 8:20 p.m. after police stopped him for a traffic violation on Route 25 in Greenport, police said. His vehicle was impounded due to a prior DWI conviction.

Valerie Wowak, 29, of Laurel was charged with DWI on Thursday at 3:03 a.m., after police located her in her 2003 Buick, which was stuck in the median of Route 48 in Cutchogue. Wowak told police that she had swerved to avoid a deer and struck a drainage ditch and the median, police said. After investigation, Wowak was found to be intoxicated, police reported.

A 46-year-old Southold man reported an incident of possible grand larceny to police on Saturday at 1:11 p.m., after he discovered that a green Kawasaki dirt bike was missing from his residence on Wild Cherry Way in Southold, police said.

Mariam Smith, 42, of Wolfeboro, R.I. was driving a 2004 Honda west on Route 25 in East Marion on Saturday at 9:28 a.m. when another vehicle entered her lane of traffic and she struck a utility pole while swerving to avoid a collision, police said. Members of the transported Smith to for evaluation.

None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime, but were charged with the above offenses. They are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
