A car crash in Southold early Tuesday morning was caused by an intoxicated driver, police said.
According to Southold Town police, the accident occurred at 7:01 a.m. on Route 25.
Police said Robert Weiss, 48, of Manorville was driving a black 2013 Hyundai Sonata eastbound when he was involved in a single-car accident, running his car off the road and hitting a telephone pole.
Police said Weiss admitted to operating the vehicle, as well as consuming alcoholic beverages prior to being involved in the accident.
He was arrested, charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and transported to Southold Town police headquarters, where he was processed and held overnight to await arraignment before Southold Town Justice Court.
