Police Check Waters for Drunk Boaters

A number of violations were issued.

Southold Town police reported having to terminate two voyages after a boating while intoxicated task force headed out Saturday night.

Authorities said they policed Peconic Bay and Greenport Harbor and checked over 75 vessels, resulting in a number of summonses for various violations, including unregistered vessels, equipment violations, and personal watercraft violations. They also reportedly made two vessels turn back to shore.

The Southold Town Police department, along with the United States Coast Guard, New York State Police and Shelter Island police participated in the multi-agency BWI task force in the waters of both Southold and Shelter Island towns. Over 75 vessels were checked which resulted in two voyages being terminated and several summonses issued for various violations.
