The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate guilt.
A Calverton man was stabbed by an unknown assailant on Dec. 17 around 11:30 p.m. shortly after leaving a Mattituck convenience store, and the suspect is still at large, Southold Town Police report.
The victim was walking to his vehicle which was parked in the Mattituck Shopping Plaza off of Route 25, when he was approached by a subject who demanded money, police said. The victim refused to comply and was cut once under the left arm, and he reported to police that witnesses observed the altercation and shouted at the attacker, who then fled the scene. The witnesses have not come forward.
Riverhead Police assisted in the initial investigation. The suspect is wanted for first-degree attempted armed robbery and second-degree assault. Southold Police are requesting that anyone with information contact the Southold Detective Division at 631-765-2600.
