Police: Boat Fire Extinguished on Southold Bay

Bay authorities respond to overheated engine fire Sunday.

Two boaters were brought to shore safely on Sunday at 11:30 a.m., after the engine of their vessel overheated and caught fire, police reported.

Jane Welz, 72, of Southold, and Webster McNeil, 53, of Greenport, were boating in Southold Bay when the fire occurred, police said. along withand arrived on scene, extinguished the blaze and escorted the occupants to shore. The boaters refused medical attention.
