Police: Bicyclist Hit By Car, Truck Overturns on Route 48

Southold Town Police report two motor vehicle accidents this week.

• A 14-year-old from Cutchogue was hospitalized after being struck by a car while she rode her bicycle on Skunk Lane in Cutchogue on Oct. 13 at about 9:01 a.m., Southold Town Police reported. Henry Oman, 74, of Cutchogue was traveling south on Skunk Lane and struck the teen who was on her bicycle, police said. Witnesses on scene told police that the teen failed to yield the right of way to Oman's vehicle. Members of the Cutchogue Fire Department transported the teen to Eastern Long Island Hospital. Oman was uninjured.

• A 32-year-old truck driver lost control of his tractor trailer and overturned at the intersection of Route 48 and Mill Lane in Mattituck on Oct. 15 at about 4:37 p.m., police reported. Jeffrey Snyder of Nazareth, Penn., was operating a 2007 Freightliner tractor trailer west on Route 48 when he lost control, went through the guard rail, hit an embankment and overturned, police said. Members of the Mattituck Fire Department responded and transported Snyder to Peconic Bay Medical Center with minor injuries. Suffolk County Motor Carrier unit responded to the scene for vehicle inspection and investigation.
