Police: Alleged Drug-Related Assault in Greenport Results in Two Arrests

Marcais Smith, 19, of Greenport, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and menacing on Feb. 5 at 1 a.m. after David Bridge, 28, reported to police that he was assaulted by three unknown men on Manor Place in Greenport, police said. Bridge told police that he was struck with a baton several times and that the suspects tried to steal his money, police said. Police located Smith nearby and found him to be involved in the incident and in possession of a metal baton.

Later investigation revealed that Bridge knew the identities of at least one of the suspects who allegedly attacked him, and that the incident was the result of a drug-related transaction, police said. Bridge was later arrested and charged with falsely reporting an incident, giving a false sworn statement to police and loitering for use / possession of a controlled substance, police said.
