Police: 96-Year-Old Woman Dies After Involvement In Mattituck Car Accident

Southold Town Police report on Saturday that Irma Utter of Mattituck died after her car collided with an asphalt truck at the intersection of Route 48 and Wickham Avenue in Mattituck on Friday.

Irma Utter, 96, of Mattituck, died at on Friday afternoon after her at the intersection of Route 48 and Wickham Avenue in Mattituck at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, reported on Saturday morning.

Utter was heading east in a station wagon on Route 48 when she attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Wickham Avenue and hit a 1985 Mack dump truck driven by , Sr., 73, of Cutchogue, police said. The dump truck was filled with asphalt at the time of the crash, which caused the truck to overturn onto its side, spilling asphalt all over the westbound lane of Route 48. The highway was closed from Westphalia Avenue to Mary's Road for hours as workers cleaned up the debris.

The Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Safety Unit and Crime Scene assisted Southold Town Police with the investigation at the scene of the accident. Corazzini was issued a summons for equipment violations as a result of the safety inspection, police said. Utter's car was transported to Southold Town Police headquarters in Peconic where a safety inspection will be conducted at a later date.

Police said that no criminal charges have been filed and that investigation of the accident continues.
