PHOTOS: Runners in Santa Hats Take to the Streets for Cutchogue Christmas 5K

'Stuff the Sleigh' 5K is spirited first-annual holiday race.

Though most people are bogged down a bit from their workout routines this time of year by heavy foods and lots of parties, hundreds shook off the overindulgence and got up early on Sunday to participate in the Cutchogue Fire Department's first try at the "Stuff the Sleigh" Christmas 5K race/walk to benefit the department and Community Action Southold Town with donated toys.

The race started at 10 a.m.,  with a Zumba warm up at 9:40 a.m. hosted by JABS of Mattituck (read up on the growing local Zumba trend here). The course winded through Cutchogue and New Suffolk with brisk but runnable conditions and ended with hot clam chowder, "breakfast beer" and other refreshments after the race. Co-organizer Barbara Lindsey Shalvey said she was very happy with the turnout and hopes for another happy and healthy holiday gathering next year.
