No Residents Hurt in Laurel Fire, Officials Say

Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.

Residents who were at home when a Laurel house broke out Monday morning all exited and got to safety without injury, officials said.

According to Southold Town police, a fire broke out at 10:22 Monday morning at a home on Delmar Drive in Laurel.

The fire appears to have started when a cable technician attempting to install cable service to the residence accidentally drilled through an electrical wire, police said.

Members of the Mattituck Fire Department responded to the scene; Cutchogue and Jamesport fire departments assisted, police said. Two firefighters were transported to local hospitals for treatment for heat exhaustion.
