High school senior is taken to hospital after car collides with school bus carrying seven aviation students to Shirley.

A Mattituck High School senior and an adult driver were injured after a vehicle crashed into a Mattituck-Cutchogue School District bus late Friday morning in Aquebogue as the bus carried seven students from the Mattituck and Southold School Districts to the Suffolk Aviation Academy at Eastern Suffolk BOCES in Shirley, according to a report in the Riverhead News-Review.

Riverhead Police said that a vehicle struck the bus at the intersection of Route 25 and Church Lane in Aquebogue at 11:27 a.m. According to the News-Review, the vehicle jumped a curb of a parking lot at the intersection and crashed into the front right side of the bus, shattering windows and pushing the bus into the lane of oncoming traffic, which was devoid of vehicles at the time.

Mattituck High School Principal Shawn Petretti indentified the injured student as a senior, who was treated for minor scrapes and bruises after the glass shattered. He was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment. Southold High School Superintendent David Gamberg said that the Southold students were not harmed in the accident and continued to the program at the aviation center.

The driver of the vehicle was also taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment to minor injuries, according to the News-Review.
