Mattituck High School Drug Investigation Results in Arrests

Three teens charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Police were called to Mattituck High School on April 20 after school authorities received a report of several teens being in possession of marijuana, police said. After investigation, three students — one 16 years of age and the other two 17 years of age — were turned over to police custody and arrested on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.  They were transported to Southold Town Police headquarters in Peconic where they were processed and released on an appearance ticket for a later court date.

That is only the tip of the iceberg regarding drugs in Mattituck school, and those who think otherwise are only fooling themselves.

Yeah, somehow I think that a comparison of the number of drug related issues/users between Greenport HS & Mattituck/Cutchogue HS would be pretty clearly skewed in one direction...

It is really sad how marijuana is so much more prevelant (than in the past) with our youth and many teenagers think of it as an innocent high. They have been lied to and desensitized by movies and media. No school or child is immune. I hope the kids get the help they need and realize there is nothing innocent about marijuana.

I agree w/ Sharon. My child requested to be removed from this school because of the drugs so prevalent "in" the school. All schools have this problem but being that this is such a small community and school it should be under control. I have personally told Petretti that there is a problem here and he brushed it off as they are "good kids" which they are but they have all been getting away with it because of that mentality. I do feel for these kids and their families. Teens make stupid decisions but they need to know that in school, it will be a high price to pay when caught. So I pay taxes and still send my kid to a private school. Not to say that it would not happen there but they know that because their parents pay, there is "ZERO" tolerance. I cannot afford it but I do it. This is where I wish I could take a portion of my hard earned tax dollars to send them to a school of my choice. It's about time this school cracked the whip! Parents and tax payers take note! My best to everyone involved and hope other than just sitting and having meetings about these "outside" influences, step up the security and drug sniffing dogs and anything else it takes to let the kids know, The "PARTY IS OVER"!

So true Sharon...I heard today of another parent that said, "girls smoke it in the school bathroom and then douse themselves with perfume".. Now how clueless is the staff let alone the parents... I mean really, I would know in a heartbeat if my kid smells funny! I do their laundry! Parents must have some clue!....? Really! is Mattituck that sleepy!? ....

it's really sad that some kid who got caught with a little pot gets in such trouble. there are MUCH WORSE things being passed around in schools that many of the kids who smoke pot refuse to touch. marijuana really isnt the demon its made out to be, it's not addictive, it doesnt cause as much permanent damage as other things like cigarettes, and harsher drugs.
