Man Found Dead in Pool Was Queens Monsignor

Funeral arrangements for Monsignor Langelier have not yet been made.

An elderly man found dead at the bottom of his Southold pool was a longtime priest at the Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church in Forest Hills, Queens.

According to Southold Town police, police responded to the Maple Lane home of Gerald Langelier, 78, on Friday at 4:57 p.m.

Police said Monignor Langelier was found unresponsive at the bottom of his pool. Responding police and Southold Fire Department members tried to resuscitate Langelier prior to transporting him to Eastern Long Island Hospital, but were unsuccessful.

A visiting priest at the church on Sunday said arrangements have not yet been made for Monsignor Langelier.
