Man Charged With DWI in Mattituck Saturday

Police said the defendant failed to signal and made an improper turn.

A Laurel man was arrested in Mattituck Saturday and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

According to Southold Town police, Cornelius Dembinski, 57, of Laurel, was arrested on Pike Street in Mattituck and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. He was also charged with failure to signal and making an improper turn.

Police said Dembinski was operating a 1997 Toyota on New York State Route 25 and was stopped for failure to signal and an improper turn.

Upon investigation, police said his breath smelled of an alcoholic beverage, he was unsteady on his feet, his eyes were red and glassy, and he failed several standardized field sobriety tests administered at the scene.

Police said Dembinski was found to be intoxicated and was arrested and transported to Southold Police headquarters, where he was held for morning arraignment.
