Family Of Cutchogue Man Who Died in Crash Needs Help To Send Him Home

Police said alcohol was not a factor in Saturday's accident.

The family of a Cutchogue man who lost his life in a fatal accident on Sound Avenue in Aquebogue Saturday is desperately trying to raise money to send him home to his final resting place, with his mother in Guatemala.

According to Riverhead police, Rigoberto Boror, 35, of Cutchogue, was traveling westbound in a blue Dodge pickup truck on Sound Avenue, to the west of West Lane in Aquebogue on Saturday morning at 6:55 a.m.

Police were dispatched to the scene of the one-car accident and determined that Boror had been heading west when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a large tree on the northside of the westbound lane.

According to Sister Margaret Smyth of the North Fork Spanish Apostolate in Riverhead, Boror's cousins came in to seek help with funeral arrangements, as well as sending his body home for burial.

"He was a good man," Smyth said. "He never had any trouble."

Borer, she said, had no wife or children but was working at a local gas station to help send money back to his parents in Guatemala.

His cousins, she said, "are devastated. They're all nice guys."

Borer's family, Smyth said, is setting up collection cans at local stores to help raise necessary funds to send his body back. "His mom wants him back home," she said.

Adnan Kocan, who works at the Citgo gas station in Cutchogue, said he knew Borer, who came in often for coffee with his cousin. "He was a very nice man," he said.

Borer, he said, worked part-time at a number of jobs including a gas station, a Christmas tree farm, and a heating and air-conditioning firm. "He was a very nice person," he said.

But despite his life in the United States, Kocan said Borer often spoke of home. "He would say, 'I miss my mom -- I miss my mom,'" he said.

Boror, police said, sustained severe injuries and was trapped inside the vehicle.

The Riverhead Fire Department, Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and a Suffolk County medivac helicopter responded to the scene and extricated the driver from the truck.

He was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by the Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corps, where he was pronounced dead.

On Monday, Riverhead Detective Sergeant Joseph Loggia said alcohol was not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Smyth said Borer lost control of his vehicle on the ice. "It was just a terrible accident," she said.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500 ext. 332.

Those wishing to donate to help Borer's family can call Smyth at 631-369-4601.
