Cops: Drunken Brawl Leaves 6 Homeless Injured, 1 Unconscious In Riverhead

Six homeless men were injured in the altercation, police said.

A fight among six intoxicated homeless men on Main Street in Riverhead Saturday led to injuries and one man left unconscious, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, officers responded at 4 p.m. to a business on West Main Street after a call about a man found unconscious with facial lacerations.

Upon investigation, police said six homeless men were found injured inside an abandoned, unsecured house on West Main Street. All the men had facial lacerations and bruises and were found to be "highly" intoxicated, police said.

With the help of a Spanish interpreter, police said it was determined that nine homeless men had been drinking in the abandoned residence when the fight broke out. Of the six injured, four were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said; the remaining two refused treatment, police said.

None of the men involved cooperated with authorities, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call Riverhead police at 631-727-4500 ext. 327.
