Crimes Nearby: Shoe Store Employee Robbed At Tanger

RIVERHEAD

• A female Tanger employee was robbed by a man who forced his way into the store, tied her up, and stole her car, police said. Riverhead police said they responded to the Aldo shoe store, located at 1770 West Main St., Suite 902, in the Riverhead Tanger Outlet Center on Wednesday at 9:02 a.m. According to police, the female victim, an employee at Aldo Shoes, reported that an unknown male forced his way into the business while she was opening the front door to the store. The man, police said, placed an unknown object to the back of the employee's head and forcibly removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the store. The victim was then tied up, police said — while the subject fled in her 2012 Hyundai Elantra, registration number FRR-4165. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Riverhead police at 621-727-4500. Tanger media representatives did not immediately return a request for comment.

• The Suffolk County District Attorney's East End DWI Task Force set up a checkpoint in Riverhead Friday night and netted 10 arrests. According to Riverhead police, there were six charged with driving while intoxicated, one charge of driving while under the influence of drugs, and four counts of felony possession of a controlled substance.Jean M. Powell, 53, of Calverton was charged with driving while intoxicated, Madeline C. Perez, 20, of Selden was charged with driving while intoxicated and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a 17-year-old from Farmingville, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, William M. Francis, 24, of Mastic Beach was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree and criminal possession of a hypodermic needle, Cory T. Cornish, 22, of Riverhead was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, Doug Ryder, 45, of Riverhead was charged with driving while intoxicated, Janelle A. Hooghkirk, 23, was charged with driving while intoxicated, Shawn C. Barrington, 42, of Wading River, was charged with driving while intoxicated and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a 17-year-old Riverhead resident was charged with driving while intoxicated, and Brad T. Reeve, Jr, 38, of Aquebogue, was charged with driving while intoxicated.

• Southampton Town police arrested two Flanders men on Sunday night after one was allegedly found with marijuana -- and another tried to flee the scene.Police said on Sunday at about 12:07 a.m., a suspicious car was observed with the interior dome light on on Meadowbrook Lane in Flanders.Upon investigation, police said it was determined that the driver, Guillermo Ayala, 20, of Flanders, was in possession of marijuana. He was arrested at the scene and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and released on an appearance ticket. During the investigation, police said, the passenger in the car, Elijah Steward, 20, of Flanders, exited the vehicle and refused repeated orders to get back in the vehicle; he then fled into a nearby residence.A short time later, police said, Steward came out of the residence and was arrested for obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, a misdemeanor. He was transported to police headquarters for processing and released on an appearance ticket.

• An Aquebogue man who police said robbed a liquor store and fled the scene was arrested and also charged with driving while intoxicated. Riverhead police said they investigated a burglary that occurred at 12:05 a.m. on Friday night at the North Fork Liquor Store, located on Main Road in Jamesport, after responding to an alarm at the location.Upon arrival, police said it was discovered that an unknown person had broken into the front window of the store and allegedly removed several bottles of liquor. Police said the suspect, Bradford T. Reeve of Aquebogue, fled the scene and was later arrested and charged with burglary of the North Fork Liquor Store, driving while intoxicated, and two counts of possession of stolen property.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS -  

• The drivers of two cars involved in a fender bender on Dune Road on Dec. 13 were both charged with crimes. According to Westhampton Beach police, after the accident, the drivers got into a verbal dispute that lead to weapon threats.
Arriving on the scene, police said they charged Brian Hills, 36, of Center Moriches, with criminal possession of a weapon and menacing, both misdemeanors. Police said they found a pipe in his car. The driver of the second vehicle, Louis, Pirozzi, 53, of Center Moriches, was charged with second-degree harassment, a violation.

EAST HAMPTON

East Hampton Village police are investigating who was behind the wheel of a sport utility that crashed on Friday. An officer on routine patrol said he found a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the woods on the north side of Montauk Highway just east of Stephen Hands Path at about 7:40 p.m. The Jeep had hit a utility pole before crashing into trees about 15 feet off the roadway. The Jeep was unoccupied.
